Below is my experience when I suddenly lose my eyesight.
Dear Diary,
Today I became blind. Every thing seemed pitch black and my heart was engulfed in total fear. I did not dare to move from where I was; it seemed like a tough challenge. My life was in total darkness and how I hoped that I could see a glimpse of light, shining into my miserable life; giving me a sense of hope. Now I finally understand how the blind people feel, their lives seemed pathetic and pitiful but yet every day they lived with so much courage and boldness. My life was totally me when I could see, but now, my life was much dependent on the crane I am griping as I walk or the passer-bys I had encountered when I ask for directions. Though I am blind, I will not let anyone despise me for my disability; I will try my very best to live my precious life to its utmost potential. A lot of blind people deserve our true respect such as Bach, Helen Keller and others. Being blind is not a sad thing; it is only tragic if you don't value your life and think that you are inferior. We are definitely not. The black in all we see are actually the behind of a door, leading you to unlimited possibilities... It is just the matter whether you are willing to fling it open.
Bye,
Susan F.Y

Sometimes we may think that life is very unfair. We often see many people who are disabled in some way, or others who may be discriminated because of some factors. In my opinion, without these difficulties in life, we will never learn to overcome challenges. Like you said, being blind isn't necessarily a burden. Blind people can still lead happy lives, with the help of technology. Those who are disabled are not the really pitiful people in the world. I think that those who will suffer the most are those who look down on the disabled.

Hello Kai Ying,
I am Jing Ye. I think that what you are going through is just one of the many obstacles in life that one must pass. I think that your point of view about"Being blind is not a sad thing; it is only tragic if you don't value your life and think that you are inferior."is correct, as most people do not even value their life just when they meet an obstacle they cannot pass. However, like Helen Keller and J.S. Bach, whom you have already mentioned, they did not give up when their world became pitch black. They persevered, which is how they can survive and earn our respect in this world. It is perseverance and willingness to overcome the situation which will help one in overcoming problems. Nothing is impossible, only if you put your heart in whatever you are doing.
Regards,
Jing Ye

Kai Ying, your blogskin is about to make me go blind. Please change your settings to something more reader-friendly.
Some empathetic observations here. If you're curious what could happen to an entire society that goes blind, you may want to check out Blindness by Jose Saramago in a few years (you may not be ready for it quite yet, as it's pretty brutal).
